Building Organizing Committee
Building the tenant union through organizing fellow tenants to fight our landlords and the landlord system. Bringing already existing tenant associations (TAs) into affiliation with CHTU. Turning calls for crisis into coordinated organizing against the landlords who cause the crisis. Organizing new tenant associations and CHTU locals (unions of tenant associations with the same landlord). Building tenant power and tenant union power through organizing in our own buildings and our neighbor’s buildings.
-
Membership Committee
Building the tenant union by organizing CTHU’s internal membership through union-wide social events and political education. Strengthening our ranks by creating and facilitating CHTU “initiation” (a welcome to the union and political orientation to our strategy). Leading a recommitment drive for existing TAs, pulling members back into the union, and maintaining membership lists. Creating cohesion between CHTU buildings with membership cards and CHTU building posters. Work closely with the Finance Committee on coordinating dues program.
-
Community Partnerships Committee
Working with allied community groups, housing organizations, and friendly legislators. Getting the word out on key legislation and land use fights through press coverage and op-eds. Communicating heady and complex policy information to those both practiced at analyzing legislation and not. Turning out our members for city- and state-wide fights. Representing CHTU within broader coalitions and community boards.
-
Communications Committee
Facilitating communication between CHTU members across TAs and throughout the union. Sharing upcoming events, meetings, actions, and victories, and updating members about decisions. Communicating with the public and the press through social media, press releases, and our website. Creating media strategy and learning how to talk to reporters about our work and our fights. Developing a storytelling program to share our stories with each other and the public.
